Discover Valsessera, with its mountain pastures, streams and snow-covered forests

Access and parking

From Rosazza or Trivero (Valdilana), via the scenic Zegna road, you reach Bocchetto Sessera, where you park in the ample parking lots available. Here you will also find the snowshoe rental point of the Associazione Amici del Fondo.

Route

The start of the trail is nearby, just beyond the hill (Bocchetto) that immediately shows us a part of Alta Valsessera, up to the peaks that divide it from Valsesia.
Take the path downhill to Piana del Ponte and the refuge of the same name, which is reached by crossing, still downhill, a thickly wooded thicket of conifers in places and then beech forest, to the bridge of the same name over the Sessera stream.

After the refuge, the path goes up the course of the stream uphill, first on a wide dirt track that is abandoned near a hairpin bend. Then a path widening and narrowing inside the beech forest, leads near the archaeo-mineral site of Rondolere and then to the Casa del Pescatore, crossing the Sessera again on a wide bridge. From here you ascend on the wide cart road to Bocchetto Sessera, sweeping your gaze downstream and the stream or upstream over the ridges and beech forest.

The route is quite long and in the first part, up to the Piana del Ponte refuge, practically downhill only, and then it varies in the second part and takes at first a slight incline and then a steeper one, but still easily walkable and return in a loop after 7.5 km to Bocchetto Sessera and the cars.

Check the snow conditions and consider that the winter mountain, in all its forms, is a potentially difficult and dangerous terrain. Adequate experience, training and preparation is required.
