Discover one of the most popular hikes in the Biellese Alps, with incredible views of the plains
Access and parking
From Oropa, take the Tracciolino road on the left, and follow it for about 6 km, until the sign for the municipality of Occhieppo Superiore. Here you park your car taking advantage of a widening on the right, at the entrance of a paved road and the signs for the Frassati trail.
Route
The trip, with adequate snow conditions, provides a splendid view of the plains. The ascent and descent do not present any particular technical difficulties, and the route is often busy.
Check the snow conditions and consider that the winter mountain, in all its forms, is a potentially difficult and dangerous terrain. Adequate experience, training and preparation is required.
Once parked, it is necessary to locate a small road that climbs just before the sign (Frassati path) and shortly leads to a large repeater. Continue uphill, passing some small alpine pastures, until you reach a group of buildings indicated on the maps as Cascina Deira farmstead. Then continue without going directly up the slope but traversing northward and uphill until you reach Cascina Giassetti. From here, go up the slope either facing it directly or zigzagging and looking for lines with lower slopes. In this way you reach, near a cairn, the wide ridge that you can now follow without particular difficulty and always along the ridgeline. You will soon reach a large cairn with a cross (Poggio Frassati - 1970 m).
The descent is mainly along the wide slopes traveled during the ascent.
