Reach one of the most scenic spots in the Biella region along a well-marked and popular path. At the top, you can take refreshment in the welcoming refuge, a few metres below the summit monument.

Access and parking

About 16 km from Biella, after passing the Graglia Sanctuary, you reach Bossola. Take the panoramic Oropa-Andrate road on the right and in 2 km, you will reach Colle San Carlo, where you can park in the car park on the right-hand side of the road.

Route

Leave your car in the car park and you will find a road leading uphill to the left and a marked path going straight up. Take the path and leave the road to the left. In this way, you will climb more quickly and avoid the hairpin bends of the gravel road that you will encounter several times in the first part of the climb. Keep following the path and the signs to reach a junction where you keep to the left and leave the gravel road to the right. You will soon reach a wooded saddle. Continuing along the path, you will reach a nice grassy esplanade and then Alpe Amburnero di sopra (1,538 m - 1.15 hours from the start); from here, go up towards some evident rocky outcrops, above the buildings. Continue along the wide ridge and reach a saddle just beyond a rocky outcrop. Continue along the evident path until you reach the massive stone cairn that marks Bric Paglie at an altitude of 1859 m (50 minutes from Alpe Amburnero di Sopra). From here begins the panoramic route of the ridge that leads to the Colma di Mombarone, now clearly visible. Then continue along the ridge, following the path and keeping upstream of Lake Pasei or Pasci. Then take trail C1 coming from Sordevolo, from where a short but steep stretch leads to the Mombarone hut (2,312 m - 1.30 hours from Bric Paglie). Behind the refuge, an easy path leads in about 5 minutes to the summit monument.
