Retrace the paths of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and discover unusual views towards the sanctuary of Oropa
Access and parking
From Biella, reach Oropa. When you reach the sanctuary, turn right and follow the paved road until you reach the entrance to the lower square of the sanctuary. Continue along the road and take the S.P. 512, signposted to Sordevolo. Continue for about 6.5 km until you reach a widening on the right, at an asphalt road that climbs. There is an information sign on the path dedicated to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. Park your car in the widening or on the road, so as not to hinder traffic.
Route
After parking the car, continue along the road that climbs steeply to the information panel. Continue until you reach Pian Colombaro, where there is a memorial stone dedicated to Paolo Bernascone. Pass the Alpetto di Mezzo mountain pasture to reach the Alpetto Superiore mountain pasture at 1,488 m, where there is a stone altar. Then climb along the ridge and the Muanda pastures on open ground. The trail may not be very clear at times, but follow the stone direction markers and the red and white signs along the ridge until you reach a rock with a plaque bearing the words "I remained a Christian". From here, you admire a beautiful view of the Basilica of Oropa. Continuing for a few dozen metres, we reach the boundary stone of the site called "Poggio Pier Giorgio Frassati" (1,980 m). The hillock is an open area free of danger that can accommodate hundreds of people, enclosed in the magnificent basin of the Biella Mountains with an exceptional view towards the plain.
Descent along the ascent route.
