RIVA DEL GER TRAIL
Touristic
From the Visitor Centre car park, the path crosses the large lawn of the picnic area and enters among the piles of pebbles, flanked by drystone walls.
After about 50 m, a fork on the right diverts from the main route and leads to a vast flat basin which is believed to have been a large "accumulation basin" for the water used for the cultivation of the Roman mine.
Returning to the main itinerary, it is possible to see, on the sides, traces of a village linked to the exploitation of the mine, consisting of large hut bottoms carved out of pebbles and divided into several rooms by collapsed walls.
Continuing along the path, you come across a washing channel, numerous huts and small fireplaces in a good state of preservation. The circular shape of the huts is due to the collapse of part of the walls that modified the original square or rectangular plan.
The route reaches the edge of the escarpment that separates the Terrazzo on which the goldfield was located from the anthropic conoids made up of the debris produced by its exploitation.
Through a wood of oak and chestnut trees, the path turns back following the ridge, until it descends into the channel coming from the accumulation basin located near the beginning of the path.
The route then goes up the course of the canal, continuing between bumps alternating with stretches of cobbled road, re-joins the outward path, and reaches the meadow of the picnic area.
Path subject to enhancement with the funds of the PSR 2007-2013, Measure 313, Action 1.
