This stage starts in Oropa from the sanctuary located at the side of the hairpin bend of the Rosazza tunnel road beyond the Nocca trattoria, with the beautiful late 19th century paved mule track (signpost D13) leading halfway up the mountainside to Alpe Pissa. From here, the route climbs up on a paved path that reaches the Rosazza refuge and Oropa Sport.
From here, follow the direction to Lake Mucrone and, once arrived at Fontana del Bersagliere, follow the path on the right (signpost D24); upon reaching the fork with the path to "Ciao Miki" ferrata, continue on D24 climbing up to Bocchetta del Lago where you enjoy a wonderful view.
From here, take path C11 and descend into Valle Elvo, with numerous up-hills and down-hills, rocky terrain and some challenging passages equipped with ropes and ladders. The last stretch is particularly steep, so much so that it is nicknamed "man-killer", but once you finally reach the refuge (2280 m) you enjoy the splendid view of Monte Rosa, Monte Bianco and into the Aosta Valley.
