The route starts from the Sanctuary of Graglia on path B2, which takes half an hour to reach the chapels and the small church of San Carlo on a panoramic spot (1028 m).

From here, take the well-marked path B7, which starts at the crossroads; climb up through the meadows and cross the road several times until you reach a small water tank. Here, leave the road and continue on the left along the path that skirts the wood and reaches a small saddle. Continue between beech and birch trees to reach the pastures of Alpe Amburnero di Sopra, where you cross path B11, which climbs from Bossola.

Here the trail continues on the SE ridge of Mombarone, climbing in a more rocky area towards the Bric Paglie (1859m) marked by a large cairn. Continue along the ridge to the hut, only briefly avoiding the rocky asperities of the watershed by descending a little to cross some marked cols.

The Colma di Mombarone peak (2371 m) offers a grandiose panorama: given the absence of higher mountains in the immediate vicinity, the view can sweep in all directions.
