FROM OROPA TO MONTE MARS
Excursion
From the Oropa-Mucrone cable car, after passing the Botanical Garden, go down towards the Roc chapel and, near the chapel, cross the bridge over the Oropa stream and take path D13a on the left, which goes up along the stream to the Cappelletta della Madonna.
Here take the dirt track (signpost D13) as far as the fork on the right where the mule track starts. This goes past the Pissa Alp and leads to the Rosazza refuge, past the ski lift buildings and the Savoia Refuge. Now follow signpost D24 that, with a short flat stretch, reaches Lake Mucrone.
In order to reach Monte Mars, the highest mountain in the Biella area, continue following signpost D23 along which the route becomes more demanding and, in the final part, faces steep sections and short rocky stretches that are a little exposed.
