FORMER MAURIZIO SELLA WOOL MILL
Maurizio Sella settled in Biella in 1835, incorporating the old Mondella paper mill dating back to the early 16th century and the silk spinning mill built at the end of the 17th century from the Sanctuary of Oropa and constructing new buildings. The complex, which had as many as four chimneys, is made up of several buildings that overlook both the river and the road and enclose a long courtyard partially covered by an iron truss roof, overlooked by buildings that were once used as dwellings, including the home of Quintino Sella. The weaving mill building dates back to 1867 with five floors, 87 windows and doors; it houses some of the Banca Sella offices and, in the oldest part, the Sella Foundation, which preserves archives of the Sella family from the beginning of the 17th century and numerous photographic collections from its origins to the present day.
Location: Biella (Biella and Oropa Valley)
