The municipality of Valdilana was established in 2019 merging the municipalities of Mosso, Soprana, Trivero and Valle Mosso.

In ancient times the territory of Mosso was very extensive , including Valle di Mosso, Veglio and the Mortigliengo areas. It was a decisive place in the history of the valley, contending for supremacy over Biella in the art of wool cloth manufacture as early as the Middle Ages. It was home to the Sella and Giovanni Garbella families.

Trivero was already a centre for wool processing in the 14th century and is still one of the most active and populated in the province. The main centre is in the upper part of the town, formed by the hamlets around the large settlement of the world-famous Lanifici Zegna, wool mills and the Centro Zegna. The parish church of Saints Quirico and Giuditta was rebuilt in its present form after Dolcini's destruction in 1306. The Romanesque base of the bell tower remains from the original construction. Inside, the Madonna with Child and Saints and the Martyrdom of St Agatha are notable works by Giovan Battista Giovenone.
