Viverone

Surrounded by the splendid setting of the morainic Amphitheater of Ivrea, Lake Viverone has a special charm and is an unmissable stop for those who want to know the Biella area in all its facets.
The oldest nucleus of the Viverone village is located on the hill, but the lake area was already inhabited in the Bronze Age, as evidenced by the findings of submerged pile dwellings dating back to between 1650 and 1350 BC, which since 2011 have been become part of the Unesco heritage within the system of "Prehistoric pile dwellings of the Alps". It is not possible to admire the site live, as it is submerged by the waters, but in the municipal library a stone's throw from the town hall of Viverone a collected museum site has been set up, that tells the history of the settlement and exhibits artifacts found during archaeological research - axes , swords and ornaments - testifying to the life of a middle Bronze Age community.
The particular microclimate of the area makes it particularly suitable for agriculture, evident in the expanse of orchards and vineyards - Erbaluce and Canavese, two of the 5 DOC Biellese are grown here - and makes Viverone a welcoming holiday resort, rich in tourist facilities.
The lakefront hosts numerous accommodation facilities, restaurants and bars, while on the lake there are many sports and recreational activities such as fishing, water skiing, sailing, canoeing, wind surfing. Do not miss the boat trips, organized in the summer, guided tours that allow you to discover the peculiarities of the lake.
The Via Francigena Morenico Canavesana crosses the province of Biella right here, in the stretch that connects Ivrea to Vercelli; the area's hiking and cycling itineraries are numerous, scenic and well signposted.
Birdwatchers' paradise are the wildest shores of the lake, rich in reeds, marshy areas and wooded areas: a place of great ornithological interest thanks to the abundance and variety of avifauna, which find here a refuge suitable for nesting or wintering.
