THE ROYAL RESIDENCES
THE ROYAL RESIDENCES OF TURIN AND PIEDMONT - THE SANCTUARY OF OROPA
Charming buildings and their grand parks and gardens : the Royal Residences circuit was used by the Savoy family and nobles from the court for holidays , parties and hunting. In 1997 it became a Unesco World Heritage site and is of particular interest for its historical, artistic and naturalistic features.
Between the Fifteen-hundreds and the Seventeen-hundreds the Savoia family became very powerful and started to buy beautiful and noble residences and to show their religious beliefs by building impressive baroque churches as well as expanding the old Sanctuary, which was a popular destination for pilgrims and the religious population.
For this reason The SANCTUARY OF OROPA, so important for the Royal family, was expanded using the best architects of the Court (Juvarra and Arduzzi) and became the great architectural monument which it is today. It is still possible to view the Royal residence where the family used to stay during their frequent visits to the Sanctuary.
