Note: This is the most panoramic section of the GtB, which, until Oropa, follows the south faces of the hills that dominate the province. The route follows the natural balcony that, in the first part, runs parallel to the Panoramica Zegna, the road built by Ermenegildo Zegna from 1938.
You mount the right slope of Valsessera on a path that runs past the ruins of the former Bozzalla Pel wool-mill and several votive chapels until it reaches a paved road. Take this and follow it to Castagnea. Pass through the village and take a steep path that enters the forest. When you reach Trivero cemetery, you descend first on an old, abandoned road, then a path in the park, till you come to the road called Panoramica Zegna. Continue to and pass through the Villaggio Residenziale and enter the “Foresta Parlante” (Talking Forest), an interesting experiment in environmental education run by the students of Trivero. Walk through the meadows of Piane di Barbato, then head down (below) a section of the path for the disabled and follow the path through the wood till you come to Capomosso. At the hamlet Ferchiani, take a path that rises through the wood and comes out at a col, then go down the other side into the enchanting Vallone del Poala where you come to several farmhouses (above). Continue through the meadows to the paved road that climbs to Piane di Veglio.
